Asturias Brown Bear Endangered Species Recovery Plan

Objective: preserve the Spanish Brown Bear populations

Problems: survival of Brown Bear population endangered by fragmentation of its habitats and isolation of the sub-populations

Solutions: the legally binding species conservation plan was used to develop a scheme for increased ecological connectivity

Results: Brown Bear populations are going to be connected through a ecological corridors

Critical factors of success: legally binding species recovery plans enabled the ecological connectivity measures to be enforced and implemented

Key learning points: legal backing of a spatial connectivity measure is very important. Different legal instruments can be used to achieve the same goal: planning and implementing ecological corridors
